Mandy Warren
My craft interest began when I was about 3 sitting next to my nanna while she sewed, knitted and crocheted. She always gave me a piece of fabric or wool to do my own crafting with, I can remember wrapping different colours of wool around my dolls to make dresses for them. As I grew older I maintained my interest, making patchwork bags when I was a teenager. My love of vintage and collectables was always with me, often begging my nanna for her lovely vintage clothes and shoes, which she willingly gave me. My mum was a dressmaker and made all of my dresses, so I grew up surrounded by fabrics, wool, patterns and my Nan’s beautiful old clothes. I have her old treadle machine in my house as my prized possession. At  one stage or another I have dabbled in cross stitch, ribbon embroidery, knitting, sewing clothes, smocking, patchwork, just about anything with a needle and thread. I have always surround myself with lots of photos of my children as they were growing up, so this is how I crossed over to scrapbooking.  I like to dabble in collage, altered books, scrapbooking and I also make singlets and dresses from old petticoats and embellish with vintage doily’s buttons and anything else that takes my fancy and I sell them on Etsy.

I have three adult children, one living in London, and the other two here in Cairns, I am a Ya Ya to one beautiful little girl called Madison, who I love to bits, and she features in most of  my scrapbook layouts. I also have the cutest little dog in the world named Lily, a mini silky terrier, she’s just gorgeous. Unfortunately I work full time (to support my crafting addiction) so I have limited time for my craft, but I do manage to squeeze in quite a bit as I am a nurse and I do shift work.  My style varies, sometimes simple and minimalist, but mostly it’s shabby vintage with lots of glittery sparkly, laces, buttons and vintage ephemera, and my theory is more is more. I am known to my friends as the “Shabby  Queen”.

I first met Kris when she was had a regular stall at the markets in Cairns, and followed her around the different markets, just loving her stuff, (still do) and when she opened Ruby St shop, I stalked her there almost every day, we had some great creative times in those days, sadly Ruby St closed, but another door has opened and we have Ruby St as it is today and how wonderful is that!
